A protective silicone sun shade is mounted on the back of the adapter facing a daytime riflescope. When used during the day, at sunset or sunrise, the solar hood prevents ambient illumination on the riflescope lens during the day and protects against glare. When used in rain or snow, it protects the eyepiece lens of the thermal imaging mount and the riflescope.
